Recade Fon, Dahomey. Wood with a glossy brown patina, metal. The wooden shaft with a beautiful shiny brown patina is carved at the top with a stylized animal head. A blade forged in the shape of a snake coiled around itself and biting its tail projects from this volume. Authenticating the word of the sovereign, this type of command staff was quite common in ancient Dahomey. The term recade comes from the word message, recado, in Portuguese. Length : 58 cm.
